You seem to follow the opposite procedure that's usually taught, which is to establish form and proportions before finishing details. In your opinion, is there an advantage to beginning with a detail?

I am not really putting in details. I am using whatever is there as landmarks to get to where I need to be. If you think that way, you will see things differently. Sometimes the landmarks will be eliminated once it's all mapped out. For instance, you can look at a figure in front of you and see a long line from the neck to the back of the ankle. You can try to eyeball the distance and draw the neck and then the foot and then later fill the rest in hoping you eyeballed it right. Or you can work your way down to the foot with careful measurements along the way.
