LESSON NOTES

Composition is really just about organizing shapes and lines to make an image easier to read. It starts with a clear focal point, but you also have to deal with the four strong borders of your canvas. We are going to look at how to use those borders to create a harmonic armature, which is a grid that helps you place elements perfectly.

We will also look at when to break the rules, like why Stanley Kubrick puts subjects dead center to make you feel weird, and how Frank Frazetta used hidden geometry to create flow. Whether you stick to the rule of thirds or use complex diagonals, the goal is always to control where the viewer looks.
