Congratulations on watching the two extremely exciting long drawings! (Hopefully)

This is an extremely important part of the process. At the end of the day when you having a painting process down the only variable that changes from painting to painting is how shapes relate to each other.

Those changing relationships and how well you address them will count entirely on your drawing skills.

Please follow along with the assignment and post your work here.

The half tones on the light areas of the nose are too dark and some areas on her right eye, are too light and have too much detail compared to the photo. Be careful with half tones always make them lighter than they appear.

I am becoming more confident in drawing faces, but I am struggling to shade the darks effectively. I'm new to charcoal sketching, thus the dark hues are hazy.

I have always experienced young mature lady portraits to be the most difficult to do, and this one confirms my believe.... I tried again but what a struggle.
Elmari Van Zyl
I really struggled alot with the lady. It went through metamorphosis a few times. It is the best I could get it being as off as it is, but I will try again. Don't know if using a stump is a bad idea. But I really used it.

slow down. compare as you go with the reference . Don't move forward if anything is off along the way. the old man one is really good. your measurements on the lady are hurried looking.
