Here are a few things you need to know to be a professional animator besides the ability to draw really well: 1. Acting, both pantomime and dialogue. this means being able to bring a character to life by showing emotion and showing them think with just body movement and through how they speak. 2. camera angles. Understanding how to animate your character regardless of perspective. also understand how camera angles affect how your character is viewed by the audience and build a performance accordingly. 3. composition. where to place your character in the picture frame to make it visually interesting and create the proper mood or emotion for the scene. 4. Story. Understanding how story works enables you to gage your characters actions depending on which act, sequence or scene you are working on. 5. character development. How does your character walk, talk, think, react, etc. understanding character allows you to build their personalities through their acting. What do they want, what are they willing to do to get it etc. I hope this answers your question :)
