I'm trying out the basics courses for the first time. What helps you remember to draw every day? And how does one make goals that are destruction-proof, that is immune to real-life stresses?

I really like Malt's suggestions below. I think it's important to be realistic so you don't burn out. I plan my week every Monday by the hour so I know how everything adds up. If it's more than 60 hours I reduce the less important things 😂 Sometimes I don't get to everything, and that's ok. It's not for everyone but it is working for me. As long as you're drawing most every day, I don't think there's anything to stress over. When I was working a full time job I drew every day for about 30 mins in my sketchbook on my lunch break. It was a great way get away from the stress of the workday and get my drawing in.

Starting up a daily drawing habit involves setting some time aside in your schedule to dedicate to drawing. Some people recommend setting time aside in the morning, even when you first wake up. Others recommend doing it as the last thing in the day before you go to bed, if you’re not too tired. If you have downtime during the day during or after a certain activity, that would work also. Like spending 5 minutes after a bath or shower. Drawing on public transportation if you can do that. Or maybe spending some time drawing during or after a meal. Otherwise, you need to try and block out some time during your day somewhere. In the beginning it may help to keep a small calendar handy and mark off every day that you draw. Like putting an X into the day, or marking down the time you were able to draw that day. Having a dedicated space, with everything you need at hand to draw, also helps. Even if that’s just keeping a sketchbook or notebook with a pencil nearby or with you when you can. As for making goals that are destruction-proof, I don’t think that’s possible. If you can set aside time, with the understanding of friends of family members that you’re dedicating that time to drawing and learning art, that would work best. But sometimes life just forces itself on you. Sometimes day are just too busy and hectic and all of your time gets used up. In those cases, don’t worry about it. Just try and pick up where you left off the next day. Worrying about missing a day will be counter-productive. If you have a very busy life, treat every day you can draw as a win and keep trying to make time for the success.
