Short Story Rough Layouts
4yr
Gannon Beck
I took a writing class at the Comics Experience recently. During the class all the students produced a script for a five page story.
These are the roughs layouts I did from my script. I did these on 3x5 cards with Pitt pens and Copic markers, with the lettering done in Adobe Illustrator. I like to letter my roughs so that I can see how the whole story is working. I'll make any adjustments at this stage before I take it to full pencils and inks.
Nice work my dude! I like the use of negative space in some panels. It really helps keep a focal point.
Nicely written characters as well.
Ahahah it's a funny story ! Liked the ending :)
If I may, the beginning is a little confusing, I would really like some time indication before the part where the ship already landed and the protagonist speak with the guardian in the first page (second line, third image).
Except for that it's a really great little story ! Are you planing to clean it up ?
Thanks for the kind words, Charline!
I didn't realize that was a rough transition, but you're right. There are a couple of ways to fix it. I'll think about it and make an adjustment. Thanks for pointing that out.
I may finish this myself, or a friend of mine will. I have a friend that said he would like to draw the story, so I gave the script to him. If he finds he doesn't have time for it, then I'll take it to completion myself. I've got other comics I'm working on, so I'm in no rush to finish this one.
