Recent figure quicksketches, Crits appreciated!

Here’s some quicksketch drawings I've been working on over the past few weeks or so, these are the more successful ones, but there are certainly some real messed up ones that are pretty wonky. The pen sketches might be 1-2 min, but the rest are probably around 5 min or more. I think I need to slow down and tone down the aggressive pointy quality that tends to happen here, probably due to impatience or feeling to rushed. I need to pay more attention to the legs... Thoughts and crits would of course be greatly appreciated!! I’ve been working through the live model stream sessions with Glenn vilppu on NMA, which have been awesome.

I really like these! Inspiring me to give it a try, I especially like the ones laying down.

Haha thanks Caeona! The laying down poses give a whole new challenge since you have to deal with more overlaps and foreshortening, really gets you thinking!

I like them, actually, they are very energetic, but yes, you tend to want to put in a bit too much information and make the whole thing a bit confusing. Rather than slowing down, I'd advise you to try to do a few sketches in less time, so that you can be forced to decide what is really essential. Sketches are like notes: if there is too much information, you risk not knowing which information is really important and which can be left out or developed less.

These are really strong Mattias! I kinda like the pointy quality, adds character to them and unique style which is not taking away from the drawing. The only thing I would suggest is some more subtlety in line weight, as sometimes there are a lot of dark lines that confuse the perspective or cover the key gestural lines. Great stuff.

Thank you so much Dan! And your absolutely right about the line weight, those are some excellent points. I’ve definitely had that bad habit for awhile, I need to just pay more attention to working on it, since it is super important in how things read and in making them appealing. Thanks so much for your complements!

Very nice, Mattias! Even though these are quick sketches, you're demonstrating a lot of knowledge of gesture, anatomy and form. That means it's all getting driven into your subconscious.

Thank you Gannon so much!! Yes that’s exactly what I hope to achieve, getting the information into the subconscious so that I can better draw from imagination!
