That is really cute, I like expressions already a lot! For your question: I immediately thought of the old joysticks, the ones with 2 red buttons and the red stick or the old Ninentendo controllers. I think these forms would imemdiately set a time for the drawing. I don't know if you want to use colors, but with colors, clothing and haircuts you can also set a retro feel.
