Hello everyone!
This is my unexpected superhero and her sidekick: "Baba G and Pisi".
Baba G's superpowers include but are not limited to:
Pacifying you with her caretaking superpowers,
Scolding you into shame and
Overfeeding you with delicious goodness untill you cannot move.
She spends her days tending to her garden and taking care of everyone around her-friend or foe.
Nobody is immune to her tasty treats, her gentle touch or her words of wisdom.
Wherever she goes, Pisi is right there to keep her company.
She's inspired by my grandma-Georgia (85yo) and her sidekick is my cat-Pisi (14yo).

Wearing a blue attire, it didn’t take long until people started calling him “The Mailman ”. Seemingly popping out of nowhere ”The Mailman” could deliver packages faster than anyone. Whenever you needed something he showed up with what you needed.
This came to benefit the current superheroes who roamed the cities. If you were in need of materials? THE MAILMAN CAME TO YOUR AID! if you were in need of weapons? THE MAILMANS WAS THERE TO PROVIDE THEM!
Of course this lead to a lot of questions. Many people and even some superheroes were questioning, how? How could the Mailman deliver so many packages on time in so many different locations? But no one ever got the chance to ask him as he always dissapeared soon after his delivery.
While the superheroes and people admired him it was a whole different story for the villains. Getting on the mailman’s bad side was the last thing you wanted and could ultimately destroy an evil plan. Beacouse if your pakages never arrived, building a weapon of mass destruction would be impossible.
Not much is known about the mailman. But he is a hero. A hero that despite all arrives on time to help the people in need.

"Cat Lady"
She took such a good care of her cats when they were alive. They never really left her side, not even after they passed away.
Wanted to try to hop off my comfort zone and approach this one with a bit more comic style angle. I really enjoyed doing those sketchy/messy lines. Was fun, hope you like it. Thanks!

Fantastic theme!
Is it allowed to use an older illustration if it fits the theme or does it have to be newly created for this challenge?

That is a sweet family and the characters could be right in an animation film. I like the hairstyles and stripe designs especially!
For your questions: The first thing that caught my eye is the green hue. It looks very artifical, almost glowing. I assume it was supposed to feel more nature like. So I would shift the color palette to more natural tones. A bit more muted yellow greens, blue greens for bigger leafs. Also the red and yellow are bit too saturated for my taste. I personally would try to fnd good reference for these materials and get the saturated colors back in with feathers and accessories.
And if you say the son likes accessory maybe make him wear a lot more than his father, so that is seeable. You could also push the poses a bit even if they are just base concepts for now. The pose of the boy could be more energetic, breat pushed outwrds, maybe hands on hips, big smile. The father could have a hand layed on his sons shoulder to reflect his personality.
Of course these are just some ideas, take what you like, if you like something or not if not :). Greta job on the two!

You are asking about the black/white sketch, right? The lineart is really clean. i love all the details with the decorations and bandaged clothing and his face too!
I think his right lower arm part is too short. But I am not good at human proportions myself.
So I would like to encourage you to push the pose. It of course depends on how you want a final image of him to look like, but you could try a more energetic, victorious pose. Or an actual fighting moment. Or even something completely different, like being exhausted and injured standing over a defeated enemy/bear. Doesn't matter what direction but I would push the pose to feel the moment, put a little story/situation in it (if you want of course).
I think it will be great, I wish I could make such smooth line art :D

Hello. Should we still draw 2-3 inches for this process? The other video mentioned to pick a few characters from the one's we developed, does 3 sound good or is that a stretch?Should we stick to one?

I have a question. What does lineup mean? Are the 3-5 characters supposed to be in the same final illustration? So should we have considered that the three work together? Or will we chose later on which on makes it to the further development steps?

Big, big thank you for this wonderful theme and for the challenge to Karla, Proko and the whole team and of course the sponsors!! Seeing all the entries one after another it is mind blowing how many fantastic, inspiring entries there were :D Congratulations to everyone!
I don't think it is necessary to start with traditional media. I am drawing since May last year now and I started with alcohol markes and some charcoal but switched very early to digital. Of course I have a looong way to go learning wise but I don't think I would be at a further point now if I had sticked to traditional media.
To me the upsides of digital for learning weigh more than the upside of traditional (for me, very subjective!). I love playing with colors and imho I learned very fast how to use colors better because I could try everything freely in digital. I could try what happens if I darken the shadows, if I make the shadows blue, if I make one color more saturated ect. Without having to draw a whole new piece. Also for composition, I could quickly get a feeling which compoistion would work better, like make the character bigger or closer to something and so on.
On the other hand you learn with traditional media to plan and to improvise. Because if a stroke is down it's mostly down and you have to work with it. So I think best way is to do both but that is very time comsuming. So I would say, try what you feel like. I myself learn quickest if I do something that I enjoy while pushing my limits.
Again this is all very 'my point of view'.

Both drawings look great I think and already beautiful. :)
I agree with Yiming Wu that it would be helpful to know what makes an illustration beaituful to you.
There are so many factors that make an illustration appealing:
composition
the structure with shapes (e.g. unity in variaty, interesting shapes...)
color
emotion and storytelling
I am sure there are many more. So if you don't have a field of interest, study artists you like and find out why you like them (or post them and we can find out together :D).

I also tried to color the temple. I went for a different color palette, blue (moon light) and oranges (dark colors). Although I like the aestetic I didn't get the moon light right. if anyone has any tipps, it would be really appreciated!

I honestly love your solution and I would like to see it as full worked out illustration!
Maybe I would add some iris values to the gecko's eye. So we can see that he is maybe looking back at the tree and also because that makesmit easier to empathize with him. Completely black eyes have the opposite effect.
And another thought - but I am really in doubt if it would work better - my eyes start at the squirrel before the moon, explore the others a bit and then go to the gecko. But the the lead is lost a bit, because the snake is too subtle to me to pick it of and lead back to the tree. You could think about change it, but I think the theme would change then to danger is everywhere. Or gecko and moon could be lined up a bit different so that I follow the geckos direction up and then find the moon again. But as I said that is just a thought and it might destroy more than help.
Really great work, I would have never come up with this composition with the gecko big in he forground.
