Once again a dog painting
2yr
Antti Kallinen
So I'm doing dog for my good friend, but this time I am really struggling with inspiration and motivation. Some of it comes from bad reference photo, and I really wanted to paint a great portrait for him. Please, tell me why you think of it and critique. Its not finished yet, but problem won't do any major things anymore.

Very clean and the shape of the whole thing pops really well. To me the main thing I see here is probably the belly/under side of the dog could use a bit more occlusion to make it darker, especially the contact areas of its legs, also the areas on the ground. But if done too much it could negate the "graphical" feeling. I think this could make a great decorative thing in a room.

I think you have the drawing spot on. I can't see any huge problems without a compare to the reference. I like the color scheme also. The background is very dead though. It could use some soft textures or a blurred out landscape. It needs something. The edges within the dogs fur are all very sharp see if you can find some softness in there. It would do a lot to add depth. I'd have to see the reference for more but I'm feeling like the shadow under the chin can be darker. Overall though I think it's a wonderful painting. Great job! Keep going!
