OC character design is hard lol

Hey everyone! Over the past week and a half, I’ve been spending my days working on my OC and wow, I didn’t realize how much time, trial and error, and exploration goes into creating a character! It’s been a real learning process, and I wanted to apply what I’ve learned from Figure Drawing Fundamentals and Drawing Basics to bring this personal project to life. So here she is my OC, Eva! ✨ I also attached a couple of images: a quick thumbnail study (I probably should’ve done more!) and a sketch of her outfit. I had a lot more exploratory sketches, but I’ll spare you the full sketch dump this time. 😅 This project taught me so much including what I still want to improve. I made plenty of mistakes, but I’m excited to keep practicing. For my next attempt, I think I’ll try working in ink and maybe add some gray/black markers to play with value and contrast. I’m not 100% happy with this result yet, but I know it’s just the first step. It feels good to finally get her down on paper and I’m excited to keep developing her!

Hey Tommy Thank you for sharing your work. I love how you've captured the proportions of your character so well and I think your thumbnail studies are great - you can see that you've put a lot of effort, time, and love into developing Eva. It's great that you're applying what you've learned in the courses to your own project—I believe that combining what you've learned with a personal project is the best way to maximize your learning. I hope you continue to have fun and stay curious as you discover your character :-)

Hi Bri! Thank you for your kind words! I learned a couple things from this personal project and I’m definitely gonna make tweaks to her, especially on how I will approach constructing her, shading, values and edges! Stay tuned! also when I start to explore color theory and putting colors on my art, I’m going to go to you for feedback if that’s ok! Your the best colorist I’ve seen here on Proko :)

Looks pretty good. I suck at drawing heads so every time I draw a character they look completely different XD

Hey Michael! Thanks for commenting! Drawing faces is hard for me too, honestly I have like over 20 pages of sketches of Eva lol, a lot of practice, trail and errors. Creating a character is hard haha

I should mention a bit of background info on Eva. Eva is a calm, confident leader who’s in charge of a special task team dedicated to hunting down kaijus and shadow beasts. She’s strong, strategic, and protective of her team but also carries a quiet elegance about her that I wanted to capture in her design.
