Hi All, beginner here.
Please suggest some improvements/changes in my portrait drawing.
I think shading is really good but you need to work on propotions and if you are using freehand technique , do not use it . Instead , try loomis method , grid method and other easy method.
Hey @Abhishek Khetrapal did you take the photo absolutely straight on? To me, it could look like the face is a bit distorted because you took the photo at a bit of an angle.
That is the case, the photo is at an angle, but I still think that even the features got misaligned.
The rendering looks good for now, the biggest issue is the alignment of the features. Either one of two things happened here: (A) you didn't establish a centerline and horizontal lines to properly place the features or (B) you did that but then the features slid around the head as you drew. If it's choice A, I'd study Loomis heads, just to get a mental map of the important landmarks where you should use a line to tie the sides of the face together. If choice B, then focus on working from general to specific. Get the biggest shapes down and slowly work your way down to the smaller forms, like you're sculpting a figure out of marble. Don't rush to draw the features- they will naturally emerge as you draw the correct shapes
Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I think it is partly point 1 and heavily point 2. The general to specific part sounds good, will try that next time.
Hey @Abhishek Khetrapal! Nice work! The main comment I have for you is that the angle of the head does not match the angle of the facial features. You have the head oriented vertical, but the eyes (for example) angle down to the left. The eyes angle the most, but the nose and mouth also angle down to the left.
Yes, I too think so, do you have any tips how we can make sure that alignment is not lost while drawing.
