any tips to improve would be appreciated
Wow these are really cool. Nice work and great job creating a varied palette. I only have a few comments for you, in the first painting, the beams of light seem to unify off of the sun image and aren’t quite straight — this is fine actually if you want them to read as something OTHER than beams of light that we have seen and have experience with, for example if you want them to read as something mysterious, then i would say accent their movement a bit more so that we see the bend or distortion a bit more. If that is not your intention, then tighten them up on the sun and straighten them out so they read as direct beams coming from the sun. My second comment is about the second painting. I like it and think you did some really nice things. I think you could decrease the value range of the rock in the back of the canyon to push it even further back in space and build atmosphere. Additionally, I would take the straight line of the shadow that is running in the near foreground and vary it — that shadow is cast by part of the canyon or an object and it most likely won’t be straight, and it is falling on rocks and grass and other objects on the canyon floor which will give it variation as well, so think of it as a cast shadow falling on interesting forms and give it some interest. My last comment is about the last three paintings, the last two in particular. I like the color and the gestural marks of the light glowing sweeps of movement, but I wonder if they are too much the same size? In the third painting could they diminish as they recede toward the background? Or in the fourth painting could they appear differently as they move through the space of the river bed? In the fifth painting I wonder if they couldn’t wrap the tree or come towards us the viewer and become more dimensional? If not, then not, but I didn’t want you to leave something on the table if it was part of the story you are trying to tell. These are all really interesting and beautiful images and I enjoy seeing them. Keep working! Awesome!
