Blake Pawlikowski
Hey all! Wanted to share my latest drawing. I'm open to feedback and welcome comments. A small local gallery just opened in my town and this is on display along with a couple other snow leopard drawings I did several years ago.
I'm working on a series of drawings of local landmarks around town for the gallery, as well. I'm excited there's a new spot supporting local artists and helping guys like me attempt a start at moving art beyond "just a hobby".

@Blake Pawlikowski I am absolutely in love with this drawing! It's gorgeous. I like how you let the tone of the paper show through. It's awesome to hear that you have that support in your community and it sounds like a fun environment to be a part of.
I think the rendering is perfect. Since you're open to critiques I wanted to throw this idea out there -- pushing thoughtfully designed shapes that have a feline quality. What gives them a feline quality? Well I made a few observations of what I think gives this cat character below. Pushing/emphasizing these shapes can go too far if realism is your goal, but a little bit of creative freedom with the proportions and shapes can elevate your drawing by giving it gesture that compliments whats already there naturally.
Just food for thought. I think this drawing is amazing and I'm happy that it has a home where others can enjoy it :) Keep up the good work!
Hi Melanie! Thank you so much for the constructive feedback and the kind words...I really did want to hear from anyone with thoughts and ideas, so I really appreciate it! I was primarily staying true to the reference, which is a bad habit I have sometimes and trying to push shapes to be more dynamic has been in the back of my mind of something to do more often. So, encouragement to do so is helpful. :) I have on my short Christmas list the Norman Rockwell book that shares the references he used for his pieces so that you can see how he exaggerated things effectively.
