Illustration design painting (Pls critique my work)

I submitted this in a competition by an art store, but unfortunately, I didn't win. Basically, they want something that shows the knowledge and creativity gained through books and sharing your favorite books with others. That's not exactly it but that's what I remembered from their instructions.
This was inspired by Guillermo Del Toro's color scheme and vibe

Well, the colors and vibe are pretty cool. I can't speak too the concept, but I will say that there are a few things about the drawing you could improve.
First, the figure in the upper right is so obscured from sight that it is unclear what it is.
Also, the figures are out of proportion and the heads are not anatomically correct.
And, the figures being flat graphic shapes while the gold and purple goo being 3 dimensional might not be working well together.
This is all just my thoughts because this is a conceptual piece it's hard to judge. Hope it is helpful :)
