Horse from start to finish + tip

Okay, what I was doing up until now was trying to draw a horse the way the masters do- from scratch. Fast, confident a few hand movements and boom, the horse is there. I completely underestimated the hard work behind getting to that level. And me not having it! I did not even see horse live! Or have not drawn them ever. So what was I thinking?! Lack of experiences lack of time yet huge ambitions= great disappointment and it did happen. I was not happy result at all!
The result? Rushing. Expecting a cool outcome.
So I told myself: nothing good will come out of doing it like this.
Instead, I changed my approach. I painted a wall, then went on my bike to pick up some things in the city while thinking about how a horse’s head actually works. When I came back to the atelier, refreshed, I slowly started breaking the horse skull down into simple shapes I could remember and reconstruct anytime I want.
I interrupted my process after each period of deep focus to clear my mind again, and over time I developed a roadmap for how to construct a horse on paper.
I’d like to share the process of my work in this short GIF, to give you an idea of what the journey can look like — the kind of process that eventually leads you to drawing the horse you want. I hope it inspires people to improve their drawing, plan better, and do some useful things between drawing sessions… and, in the end, to add a new skill to an actual skillset👍
