Gesture and structure studies

Natali Santini
Hi!
Long time no see!
Here's a bunch of figure drawing studies I did. Mainly focused on 1 minute and 2 minute gesture studies but also on 5 minute structure studies and I also tried some gesture with foreshortening.
I experimented a bit and tried out a fineliner instead of a pencil with some of these.
Some gestures have too many pointy angles in them and are a bit stiff I think but I'm trying my best in making them as flowy and simple as possible.
Any tips and feedback will be very appreciated!
Thank you!

Wow, @Natali Santini, stunning work! These look amazing!
There’s certainly a lot of movement and dynamism conveyed in your gesture sketches. Lovely use of S-curves and asymmetries! Images 1, 4, 7 and 10 are highlights to me. I also love how you’ve pushed the poses and added more exaggerated intensity to some actions such as 1, upper left in 5 and lower left in 10. Overall, I think you’ve been able to apply major gesture principles in very effective ways.
The mannequins also look pretty good - definitely feel very 3D. Although I notice the way 3D forms were used might have stiffen out the curviness of the motion a little bit. One thing I’d suggest is to model the forms into even more organic volumes. Rather than using mostly “geometric-like” primitives, you can bend, tilt and twist any of these 3D volumes to a higher degree as you wish so they match the flow and softness of the gesture curves. I see there’s some of it in your drawings already (the fencer sketch, for example, has some curviness to the boxes and cylinders); just see if amping it up a bit more will turn out fine.
Also, some poses such as 2 and lower right in 8 could use a little extra work regarding balance. Not sure if you’ve seen the lesson on How to Draw Balanced Poses yet, but as a general tip, just try to make sure there is a sense of stability and grounding between the figure and the floor (but keep in mind that these are staged poses; in other types of situations, such as “real” lively actions - for example, someone actually falling, running, jumping etc. - you might wanna disrupt that balance in order to show instability and intense movement instead).
Overall, great job!
Let me know in case you have questions or need help with anything else.
Keep it up 🙌🏻
