Hi there, @yosra24, good job in your first character ever! I really like the idea for this guy and I’m curious to know what his name and backstory could be. @Martha Muniz has made some great design-related comments already and I agree with pretty much everything. And there’s two extra bits I’d also add for now as suggestions: 1) the fact that his shapes are mostly rounded is very coherent, but see if you can add a little bit of rhythm to that roundness: try to make the curvy contours slightly offbeat to one another so they lead a visual flowing read of your design rather than “closing” like “parenthesis”; in other words, see if you can find ways to avoid the “snowman effect” Stan talks about in the How to Draw Gesture lesson! 2) I see his feet and hands have gotten a bit underdeveloped in comparison to other areas of his body such as the head and torso - and yeah, I know hands and feet can be tricky, but it’s defintely worth taking some time to solve them. If you have trouble inventing or drawing them from memory now, use as much reference as you need. In general, when you’re working with character design, try much as possible to think things through thoroughly and not leave any areas “undesigned” or “under-designed”. Consider design as “a project made up of parts that act together to form a cohesive whole” - every part is just as important. If you’re really interested in character design as something to study and grow on technically, I’d recommend looking up resources by @Stephen Silver. He has a book called “The Silver way” and also has a course on character design fundamentals over at http://www.schoolism.com which I, personally, found to be very helpful when I was starting to get real about this topic. Ah, also on Schoolism, you might also like a course called “Expressive characters” by Wouter Tulp, which is one of my favorite character design courses ever. If you were to take them in a specific order, I’d suggest starting with Silver’s, and then moving on to Tulp’s afterwards. And you can feel free to keep sharing your art and your study progress in this community if you’d like, even if it’s based on “non-Proko” resources. 😄 Hope this helps. Thanks for reading, and feel free to pop any questions you’d like. Cheers!

Hey yosra24, I agree with Martha Muniz, this is a cute design. I liked it so much that I did my own take on it. You will notice that I lengthened the arms to make him look a little different. I also used Martha's idea of making him furry. I hope you can see what I did and it can help you with your character designs in the future. Keep going :)

This is really cute! It seems like it's a very strong and powerful creature but still comes off as friendly and playful. I think if I were to give a suggestion, it would be to pick a main focus to exaggerate. Some things that come to mind are its roundness, the height of its legs, the large eye, or possibly the furriness if it's a furry creature (you may also want to give more information as to its texture/material). From there, the rest of the features can fall into place to support that main idea. I also really like the ears--they're an excellent contrast to the rest of the design by being small and pointy. You can try emphasizing this by making them stand out more in the silhouette view, as right now they merge a bit with the rest of the body. Even so, I think this is good design you've got going--Keep up the good work!
