Basic Forms Shading

I need practice shading basic forms, and I want to get more comfortable with charcoal. So I killed two birds with one stone. I made the setting with the Blender 3D program.
As I was preparing the image for upload, I realized I got a little wonky with the near edge of the cube. The top of the cube is two large compared to the reference, and the shadow is a bit long.
This is a three value study using vine charcoal, a kneaded eraser, and a fingertip, on 9x12 sketch paper with an underdrawing done with hard charcoal pencil.
I attempted a sphere this time, again from a reference rendered in Blender. The cast shadow got a little out of control, and the edges got pretty wonky. Once again, the issues seemed way more pronounced after seeing them on the computer.

What sticks out to me the most about this sphere is the missing transition between the terminator (core shadow) and the light area. Adding a halftone in there to lessen the starkness of the cast shadow would help reduce that visual sensation of a 'crease.'
Really smart idea to render these scenes in blender. I enjoy seeing your sketches, keep up the hard work!
