A Moon for my girl
2yr
Chris Tynan
I’m doing this painting for my girlfriend and I want some ideas on how to improve this scene. I know I need to reduce the significance of the world in the background to make other things stand out more but with the intention of making the character/dragon and moon the main point of focus, any suggestions? This is a Japanese/Chinese dragon. No wings. There is an anime influence to this overall. The dragon in particular is a sticking point for me. Are usually draw from reference and I am trying to challenge myself by creating something purely from imagination. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey, @Chris Tynan! It’s been a while since you’ve created this post, and @Antti Kallinen gave you some brilliant suggestions. I’m wondering if you came to apply any of them or if you got to finish this piece already and how it turned out. If so, hope your girlfriend enjoyed it! Best regards!

Hi Liandro, Big firms that combine I haven’t finished the piece yet but I have applied some of @Antti Kallinen ’s recommendations. I’ll share more when I’m a little further along. They really were great suggestions!

Sorry just a quick reply. I dont think you need to make the earth smaller, just lose sharp details, edges a bit. It doesnt stand as a focal point to me, my eyes would probably stay on the character even as is. I might slighty increase the dragons/ characters size, bring them a little closer to the "camera". But in a finished piece the colors and detailing will add to the painting and draw the eye there. If i were you i would do a couple of quick studies, and some color studies. You can go wild with them.
