added comment inProject - Line Master Studies
Asked for help
I decided to take some extra time and do 3 studies.
- Kenneth Rocafort
- Lea Wei
- Tom Strom.
I feel very strongly about each of these artists and I think I'll be trying on more of their work in the future. but for now these are the studies I chose.
Kenneth for his loose but accurate style. Lea because I'm not comfortable with portraiture like she is, and Tom because he's doing subject matter and illustration like nobody else I know (also he's a tattoo artist and I find a lot of inspiration in his tattoos).
I love the shapes that they all use, very angular and precise. I also tried very hard not to shape and used lines to indicate form and value instead.

Decided to Go for a level 1.5 and combined the previous assignments with this one.
So I tried to simplify and draw from observation as well as do some line weight manipulation in the front. Since I free handed the rhino I think I spent too much time erasing lines to get line weight correct so it's not as clean as I'd like, but I still think I did an okay job. I might do it over we will see.
Proportions are decent, but the line weight assignment fell a bit short. Too much presence in certain spots makes it look odd like the light source is wrong or some parts are moving forwards while parts that are in the front are moving backwards.
Anyways. A critique would be nice! Cheers

I also watched a video on how a golden orb weaver moves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isk4P4uxAEo&ab_channel=ViralHog . I'd say I'm satisfied with how the character came out, but I'm very exited to move onto the next few lessons. It seems to be getting fairly difficult in a nice way. I added my preliminary sketches so that other people could see that you don't have to get it right the first time. something needs to catch in the thumbnail stages before you get the correct idea. nothing is ever right the first time.

I think I did these fairly on task. Most of the proportions seem pretty decent, except that thumb. Also I have some chaotic lines in places, but I do think it still fills out fine. I avoided details even though it was easier to see them in this.

I didn't draw through as much as I should have. I think that the camels neck and the snails "neck" could have been long ellipses that I just wasn't paying close attention to.
