Drawing from imagination is so much harder for me because of the lack of knowledge. It’s a lot harder to try and get confident lines/tapered strokes because I focus a lot more of “how can I convey my ideas correctly”. I had fun though.:)

I literally have zero knowledge of anatomy, perspective, or shapes. LOL. Still trying to explore, but I had fun!

After the critique video! It’s really hard for me to not add a little imagination. LOL.

Just sketching vs. trying to get a nice drawing (with the best proportions possible) Murray Bartlett

So what if my proportions are way off? I’m trying to play with an idea here!:P

I mean, OMG. I’m definitely going to be a furry if I continue drawing like this because I really can’t draw humans (and paws are so much easier than hands!!) Tried to be more clear this time. Not overly messy. I probably can’t get a clean and neat line drawing out of this, but I had plenty of fun! Who says a tiger can’t be Dr. Strange?:)🐯

After a few days of playing with portraits and pictures I found interesting I finally decided to sit down and do a CSI for its own sake without trying to get a good-looking drawing. I’m pretty happy with this skeleton, actually. Moving on!

After the boots demo. This took me a while. That was A LOT of information. (A lot of proportions are off too). It’s hard to keep thinking as you draw each line “how do I want to simplify this”. Sometimes it just becomes unconscious copying. Even C curves can be very different from each other. S curves were extremely hard to ghost. Just hard to get on the same trace. I have a strong feeling that when Stan was doing the demo for boots he used his knowledge of shapes. That’s why they looked so real. I lack that knowledge so I can only copy 2D information now. I am still struggling to draw nice eclipses. Going back to drawing some more mushrooms…

No intentions of making this NSFW… so I did blur the pic a bit. It’s just a model in the first place. Thought using CSI to simplify a human contour would be interesting. Did this after watching the snail demo. Will do another after the boots. My iPad screen is pretty small. So when I look at the reference and draw at the same time, the space of movement is really limited and it’s hard to use my elbow or shoulder to draw a curve. It’s basically just my wrist. I’ll see how I can improve.

I’m already trying hard to simplify… but it’s hard to draw good C curves. Sometimes I don’t even know what curve I should draw. It’s also hard to draw a smooth line with the wanted shape.

Asked for help
Hello everyone: I’m trying to finish the drawing fundamentals course digitally, but Stan didn’t really talk about some good recommendations for brushes. Any good suggestions for a Procreate user? Like for adding the values in the first project? Thanks! I’d really appreciate it.

I hope it’s okay to put all of my attempts here (pre-demo, post-demo, and post-critique). I joined class just yesterday, so I had a lot of catching up to do. Admittedly, I should have paced myself better, but I wanted to catch up with current lessons so I could have a chance to be critiqued next time! I’m not really happy with any of these drawings personally, but that’s all part of the learning process, I suppose. Also, did anyone else get really tripped up trying to separate the color value of their object from the light value??? 😵‍💫 I was so thrown off by the yellow sections of the apple. I feel like I should’ve tackled something simpler and more uniform in color.

If you’re confused you can always just make the reference black and white (I think most phones can) and that will give you a better idea of the value of each area. You did it so well!

Okay, this one looks better regarding values, but still sucks pretty hard for the contour. I actually applied all the “pear” methods (which is why I post it here). I’ll watch the portrait method and try again tomorrow.

I did a highly distorted Colin Firth portrait. LOL. I showed the values pretty poorly because I don’t know how to show 5 nice different values in Procreate. Does anyone has any better idea? Right now I just use Procreate pencil and adjust the transparency. I’d really appreciate that. I also just “looked at another screen” as a reference, instead of putting the reference also in Procreate, which I am more familiar with. I guess this is a better way to train my eyes, although I failed pretty hard this time (LOL). I had fun! Looking forward to what’s coming next!
