Here's my pear and that poor ref photo guy, I ripped him a new face, sorry about that, man. It was much harder to identify shapes in a face, and I think mainly because I cannot think of a face as a bunch of shapes and detach myself emotionally. That, and I probably need to practice A LOT, too.

I hope I understood the assignment. I'm doing everything digital cause I'm broke. I drew this trashcan at work since that's where I was while watching this lesson. I did spend more time on it afterwards though. I have a really hard time drawing anything from imagination, I'm just really good at copying what I see instead of creating my own content. Hopefully I can figure it all out here.
Drawing from imagination is overrated :D Never worry about it. I think you did an amazing job, not just by capturing the forms and the values, but by translating what you see into your drawing. Visual communication at its best.

haha, as a beginner with only a few drawabox lessons, I surprised myself what I can draw, it started as a simple scribble that should have gone straight to the trash and in the end I'm quite proud of it, the shading is completely intuitive, no formal knowledge : ) There are probably a lot of mistakes, but it was great fun.

I found an old Derwent pencil set in the back of my desk, reminiscing the days when I thought getting all the stuff the pros used would make me a pro too, lol. I did a pencil test and doodled the owl and the T-rex skull decorations on my desk.
I made the sketchbook myself after a tutorial on Youtube and I find it really handy, but next time, I'll make one with a smoother paper, this was made of rough watercolor paper.

Seeing how good everyone beginner here is makes me want to rage quit my life. I am literally the worst hand eye coordination in this course. I literally cannot draw a line and circle or anything. I hope I can muster a pear that doesn't give you all eye cancer. Fingers crossed.
Don't get discouraged, it really is a matter of lots and lots of practice. Those who post better drawings are simply ahead of us in practice, they have put in the time and the learning. Nobody starts as a genius, even Leonardo da Vinci had to learn the fundamentals and draw tons to become what he became. Just keep practicing and you'll get there. Not overnight of course (that still bothers me a lot, why can't I learn to paint like John Everett Millais in five minutes, dammit), but you will.
