Question! When drawing, how much effort do you spend trying to get "into the mind" of the character you are creating? And if you do bother with that, do you have any tips? I am always trying to empathize with the character to try to understand them better so I can feel out their expression, but in the end all my own characters end up too similar because of that. Should I just abandon that whole technique or should I like... be studying vastly different people from myself? I might have to try that but I'd love to hear your thoughts, characters seem to come easily to you and they always have so much... character!

some timed figure drawings. Seems I need to study my musculature more, that back looks funny :)

Hello, here's my entry, I rolled some dice to pick three references for me, and combined the beetle and spikey structure in a landscape similar to the third picture, then added an elf who may have reason for concern. Possible reflection of my own concern regarding beetles of any size. Might have to work this into a full picture sometime, some colour would help push the scale I was trying to go for here.. but I am pleased with my sketch. :)

here is a bit of my study for today, from going through the first couple videos. I tried to copy from pictures of my family members, then did tracings to see how close I was and tried to take notes of why they were off. Looking forward to improving!

I think with the young girl you were off on the placement of the chin. I don't think it's the same distance as the brows and the nose. Other wise this is really good! Great shading. But I bet that will be coming up soon. 🤣

Tracing over the references and comparing is a great idea!
