Not quite in the zone on this one, but glad I was able to get some paint to paper for a little while.

I want to start working watercolor sketching into these daily sketches. Part of the challenge is making sure I can get into it quickly. I bought some pens that have refillable water cartridges and I think that's going to help. Anything that requires a lot of setup and breakdown won't get done often.

Lovely! Yeah those water brushes really help making it more practical

Thought I’d challenge myself by drawing something quickly whilst standing up so that maybe I wouldn’t spend so much time on details. Tried to focus more on structures…

I should probably simplify even more into geometric shapes on these...

I’ve also been thinking I should draw more in my sketchbook, and not only the lesson assignments… So I brought my sketchbook with me for a walk yesterday.

Level 1. For the first two the challenge for me was uncertainty as to wether the boxes should taper or be completely straight, wether some should be flatter and also how to handle the connection/overlap between the boxes. Managed to deal with it better on the third one after watching demo... Tried to make the boxes more equal in thickness and size and this helped to focus on the actual perspective.

After months of being on top of it, the high season in the hotel made me lag behind. And the topic of cars and tanks for cylinders is something very far out of my comfort zone. I decided to scribble along and do a few, all before seeing the demonstration... I hope to do more after the demonstration... not at all happy with it, the wheels look flat at the bottom... complicated stuff if you never really studied cars. I am the kind of person that does not recognize any brand of car really.

Great effort @loes roos! Seems like you're getting there! I just want to add to Rachel's brilliant feedback that what I found really helped in terms of ellipses was to incorporate them in your warm-up. And also on busy days, what I did in the past was just do five minutes of ellipses - and that would be it for practice that day. Those small sessions really add up even though you don't have time to sit down for a longer session! Keep going! I'm coming up to this assignment soon so will see how it goes...

Moving straight on to L2, with a couple before watching the demo... I tried to be quick with these so maybe became a bit sloppy... I want to try and go through as many as possible in a limited time.

Ugh, I feel like I want to do more Loomis heads etc before I do any more of these. I want to internalise the bigger shapes first so that I know what shapes I am actually placing in perspective...

Inspired by Stan's awkward sink I remembered a kitchen in an apartment I lived in once. It was the smallest, most awkward kitchen. There was no out/input in order to install a dishwasher so it was just placed there, half-way covering one of the doors to the room, which was an accordion-style sliding door. The dishwasher served as a counter to place a dishwasher rack, that I tried to draw here but it became a bit small... To top it off the kitchen walls were painted in a very intrusive signal red...

I'm not at the level I want to be at yet but here is my level 2 submission. (Need to incorporate a weekly quicksketch routine now and move on to perspective.) These are various lengths (5-8 mins) and mostly done with overhand grip. One of my main issues is that when I try to capture all the subtle curves my drawing starts becoming an outline study rather than a rhythms exercise. I feel I keep skipping back and forth between the two. When I try to shorten timings down the rhythms are not correct and when I give myself more time it becomes an outline study... It seems to me there are both simpler and more complex/detailed rhythms in the ebook, and the more complex ones become to 'representative' for me... I also feel like erasing lines ruins the flow so I rather place a new line or let the mistake be.

I literally have 50 alarms for every day and each tells me what to do :DDD It sounds ridicules but it's great, but only if you're actually following them XD

I'm thinking a lot about this too! Because I have drafted a sort of progress plan for my art journey and I feel like in the pace I'm moving I will not be able to do what I actually want to do before three years down the line! I do love the fact that the Drawing Basics is so huge though. I learn so much from it that I didn't even learn studying art and design in "real' schools before... It's crazy! It reminds me of this huge book that I'm reading and how intimidating the size can look. It is actually just three separate novels in one binding but I think just the size of it can be so overwhelming to some people :D I just focus on the fact that it's three separate novels and stop thinking about how much time it's going to take me. I actually also had almost a year long break from reading it. I studied a bit about Agile methodology recently and I found a few things that can be helpful for various aspects of life and that is to plan your activities in projects (sprints). Say you feel it's important to study from Loomis now, then you can plan you 'sprint' to for example 3-4 weeks where you only do that and put the Drawing Basics course to the side. The sprint length should be as long as you feel you need to level up on Loomis. I'm not being as strict about it as that, but I did actually just start a bit on the anatomy course just to get that ball rolling slowly, but my main focus is Drawing Basics. (In additions to everything else I have to do in life... :D) It's annoying that there's just too much to do and too little time...

Great start! I think you managed to find some structure there so it’s not all blob!

I really love how thorough rhythms have been explained in this section. I was struggling to really comprehend the concept in the past. So here are my level 1 rhythms. Took it very slow at first and I think naturally my timings went from about 18 minutes in the beginning and down to about 10 as I practiced. Line quality is also an issue I feel as it can get messy trying to place the lines in the right place.
