Here's my CSI Snail and Camel. I did these digitally in CSP with the default design pencil brush. I chose one from each level, because to be honest those boots felt intimidating 😅.

Wow! Great job, especially on the camel drawing! The lines in the body look really nice, but one thing is that proportionately in the photo the body/back humps are lower in space than the head. I really like how you captured the legs and feet.

I really struggled with the boots and I think I may have oversimplified them.

CSI snail, boots, camel, and skeleton. I think I struggled the most with the snail. I really noticed how hesitant my lines felt while drawing, and tried to speed it up a bit without rushing. I'm really happy with how the second boots drawing turned out, even though it doesn't have as much detail.

I think I will have another watch of the video as I had a gap between watching the task and attempting it. Was also my first attempt with the 2mm technical pencil and I did find that a challenge. Will have another go with some more familiar pencils I think.
Nice work! Your values have a nice range from dark to light.
Some of the contours/outlines of the shapes could be simplified to more straight lines and angles - they are curving in the middle of the shadow area. Using straight lines will make the placement of the shapes easier to control and design, even if it makes it look less like a realistic pear. 😅 Very nice for first time with the 2mm technical pencil - those are fun to work with!

Here is my first attempt at simplifying, took me about half an hour and I did it with graphite pencils 2h, 4b, and 6b. Later today I will attempt level 2, any advice or things to keep in mind? Thanks in advance for all the feedback! :)
Pretty! I think you've got a nice simplification of the five values and overall both of your pears look very nice :D
It looks like your initial lines to lay in the contours/overall shape of the pear, you might be pressing too hard into the paper. You can see some white lines in the shadow areas from the impressions left behind. I'd suggest making a practice sheet of light lines or lighter, slower build up of blocks of value, to get comfortable varying pressure. Or just to warm up -- I know for myself, if I jump into drawing right after work or something without warming up, I tend to press harder into the paper just because I'm tense.
Very nice shapes! I think you did a great job on the ear, and simplifying the shapes while catching all the different shifts in value.

Here is my progress in order at level 1. The last 3 are after watching the demo. I am not sure I am ready for level 2. Do you have any advice so I can prepare for the level 2 challenge?
These look great! The three after the demo especially seem thoughtfully designed.
I'd say with the level two, I found it hard to simplify what I was seeing down to all straight angles and hard edges, and had to keep reminding myself it wasn't meant to look perfect, it was the act of simplifying and seeing/designing the shapes that was important.

Here are my level 1 and level 2 simplifications. I stuck with the reference photos provided. :)
-- I tried hard to only use the 5 values in the portrait, but I felt like my shapes kept blending together, and trying to keep the edges firm while still sticking to five values was a challenge.
-- I found it hard to smoothly blend the midtone.
-- Blending with a B or HB felt easier than the darker B pencils. I haven't really used pencils above a 3B very frequently at all; looking forward to practicing more with a range.

Hello all!
Here's my random mark making doodles. I've been making art for a while, but off and on. I've been feeling pretty rusty, and I'm hoping this course is motivating to be more focused.
Still figuring out how to photograph shiny graphite 😅.
