Asked for help
Hi everyone, I've been trying to do a caricature of Putin for a few months. It has not been easy to capture his likeness, as you can see from the thumbnails - I am still indecisive about which features to exaggerate, specially to emphasize his very prominent "dark-side" nature. Do you recognize Putin in any of these? I would be glad to hear your suggestions for the exaggeration.

In case it is allowed to submit more than one entry to the creative group portraits challenge, and if the deadline has not yet passed, here is my 2nd entry. This time painted with watercolor and improved digitally. Thanks for the challenge!

Hi everyone, here is my entry to the creative group portraits - it is still rough, but this is as far as I can go within the deadline. I call it Family Xmas, it was inspired by a family I saw in the park : )

Hey there! Love your idea and composition. The dad's droopy eye on the left is killing it a bit - I think you'd have a great piece if you would change that a little

Hi everyone, color is a challenge for me and I have been learning a lot from Marco's channel, so could not resist participating. I'm new to digital and fell into a few traps along the way, but I am really amazed by what one can do with the media - I'll definitively continue doing digital! My inchworm is still rough and the background is not what I intended, but it is already very late for me, I have to stop here. Thank you to Marco for all the great teachings and to the Proko team for this challenge! Thank you also to @Isaiah for helping me to work out the perspective.

ops, it seems I submitted a file that was too compressed. Here is the same work with higher resolution.

Hi everyone, I am trying to sketch a tiny inchworm happily moving towards a (distant) apple on a table. But I am having a bit of trouble framing the scene. To make the inchworm look small, I have to make the apple look big - but the inchworm is the main character. Below are some ideas so far - my favorite is #6 but because it is flat it will be more difficult to apply lighting. I will color the scene, so if I crop the apple, I think it will still read as an apple, but I am not being able to make it look like the apple is far away. Any advice?

Hello! Must we do a cover for a real book that has been published, or are we free to make up a title/author/book idea to illustrate?

Hi Pasi, great variety of works, very nice! My suggestions are of detail but I think could help you increase the impact of the images. On the middle image, my eyes are immediately drawn to the angel's feathers because they are the lightest area in this dark composition. My suggestion would be for you to darken the wings slightly and get some lightest scents to the face of the human and/or to hands of the angels, wherever you feel the main focal point of the composition should be. I think this would make it even more coherent and interesting. On the 1st image, the profile of the heros against the distant lighter background works great. You have some spots of light and color saturation on the grass, my suggestion would be to also place a couple of small points of color saturation on the heros, where it would make sense for you - maybe on the sleeve/hand of the kid, near the very top of the head of the robot,...? I think it would help give it more "spark". I hope this helps. Good luck and keep up the good work! : )

This was a lot of fun. Landscape thumbnail painting is probably my favorite thing in the world. So peaceful :) really happy to see what other people are doing too. Some are off reference, but it was fun to challenge myself that way too.

Here are my thumbnails. (The first image is my submission, the others are just my practice versions. I included them because I don’t have source photos.) I learned a TON by doing this. I got a much better handle on water control, and composition simplification by painting these thumbnails over and over until I was happy with the direction. I intended to paint landscapes reminiscent of scenes you might find in my home state of Ohio. In each scene I tried to incorporate a mix of lost and found edges to help evoke feelings of nostalgia and solitude. These are all watercolor on paper. (Daniel Smith pigments, and 140# cold press Arches paper.) These were painted with Escoda Reserva brushes sizes 4 and up. For each thumbnail, I used the same palette consisting of Carbazole Violet, Cerulean, Phthalo Blue, Cobalt Teal, Ultramarine Turquoise, Pyrrol Orange, Prussian Blue, Indanthrone Blue, Quinacridone Rose, Carmine, Raw Umber, Burnt Sienna, Hansa Yellow Light, and Quinopthalone Yellow.

Wow, these are more than thumbnails, many are beautiful paintings in their own right! Congrats!

Hi everyone! my entry for this challenge is made of the 5 numbered thumbnails below, all painted with acrylics. The reference photos are from a couple of travel magazines. I had made thumbnails of landscape paintings and photos a couple of times before but only in gray scale, to study the values - so thanks for this challenge, I probably would not have tried thumbnails in color without this prompt : )

Among the dead Masters, I'd be divided between John Singer Sargent and Joaquín Sorolla. Among the living, it would be amazing to learn directly from several of the artists already mentioned below. I guess I would add Morgan Weistling.

Very cool challenge! Are we required to use photo references or can we submit thumbnails done from memory and/or imagination?
