The lengths don't stay the same and it's really easy to picture this. If you rotate the box enough, it will become 1 point perspective. 1 point perspective means that "the other vanishing point" is at an infinite distance. So the more the sides get parallel to the horizon, the larger the distance between P1 & P2. This is one of the difficulties with learning perspective. There's two ways to do it: 1. Calculate everything. 2. Practice and build intuition. I personally go with 2. especially since we have access to free 3D software. I'd suggest you fire up Blender or something and play with the camera set-up and focal length. And start with a cube. Good luck!

This idea is from Atey Ghailan, he mentioned in one of his YT vids that he sometimes uses a small saturated square to compare the rest of the image. It also doesn't help that you had that almost white background. It's useful to switch between light and dark backgrounds from time to time cause it'll change your perception. And, the most important step, in my opinion, is to evaluate your own work at the end and if you missed the mark you redo it and hopefully, it gets better. I think this is one of the differences between pros and amateurs, the pros are willing to go back and grind. The amateur will just say "I'll make sure to do it like that in my next painting" and skip the step. For this step, it's better if you have a specific objective in mind, for example - today I exercise edges, then evaluate with that in mind. Or today I exercise color or accuracy etc.

r/SketchDaily/07.07.2021/cooling-off Speaking of getting back into it c: I want to make it abundantly clear that this is NOT my original design, it's fan art of @snatti89's (Instagram) Toki. I'm a huge fan of Atey Ghailan and when I saw the "Cooling Off" prompt I immediately thought of Toki.

This is a sketch dump with the latest things (that you can find in other places as well, like Arstation, Instagram, Mastodon, Youtube.... all the things :p). So I completely forgot about this place, too many social media to remember :) We changed our tune a bit in the #daily-exercises Discord channel causes people were complaining that the pictures were too diverse and we didn't have a plan - one day a hand, the other a waterfall, etc. That gave me an idea, that I'll announce when I'm a bit more confident with it c: Meanwhile, I switched mainly to r/SketchDaily for my daily dose of prompts and ideas. In order: r/SketchDaily/30.06.2021/crystal-ball r/SketchDaily/29.06.2021/boots r/SketchDaily/28.06.2021/80s-fashion r/SketchDaily/27.06.2021/alt/chamomile r/SketchDaily/24.06.2021/alt/cotton-candy #daily-exercisses/26.06.2021/waterfall - hard one! You just created an app just for this! How cool! You should upload it to Google Play or App Store though, so that more people can use it.

I don't have much experience with touch devices so can't say I'll upload to those places. But the project is open source so anyone can contribute or make a fork and do their own thing based off my work. If you know any dev that would be interested in contributing a touch devices version let them know :)

It's gone quiet in here! If you need a prompt at all, I've just started doing Figuary (yeah bit late :p), something to make sure you get 15 mins daily practice anyway...

Drawabox (https://drawabox.com/lesson/4) has a chapter on insects, though the stuff there isn't design, it's just capturing the references right. Which is the first step in doing design so it's still pretty relevant. Insects specific tutorials... don't know of. I know that at ArtWod (https://artwod.com/) they have lessons on the organic matter which includes insects and plants and all that. And one of their strategies is to come up with a unique design after learning the subject matter, but there isn't anything specific on insects, more like each week there's a different subject or something like that :)

Yesterday I capped it off with two more experiments in painting style - based on @titoviktor. The first one is me messing around and the second is based on a ref. https://www.pexels.com/photo/happy-black-father-having-fun-with-daughter-5996870/ Kids are soooo hard to get right :) And today we had a nice chromatic arrangement of buildings for #daily-exercises. Got a bit carried away and spent 1h so no 30m real-time sketch video :c Ref. https://www.pexels.com/photo/red-and-white-concrete-building-7473282/

Trying out different methods to add paint on top of line art… inspired by @titovviktor’s workflow.  Did I get it?!?! Maybe a tiny little bit? :)) @titovviktor: https://www.instagram.com/titovviktor/
