As an introduction to this course, I'll show you how I break down the features of animals, starting with apes, in order to use their traits in the imaginative world of creature design.

Any tips?

My intro sketch to the lesson. I sadly deleted my concept layer but I loved the loose scribble gesturing Mr. Colman introduced with his bat ape hybrid. It really worked well with my workflow and I look forward to the form studies to follow. In my design I chose a leaf gecko with ape I'm hoping to refine it better as it seems very cut and paste with the anatomy and the pose needs more sense and drama. Proud though I like the story of someone walking late in the woods and coming across it snaring dinner. Looking menacing in torch light.

Pardon my mess Mr. Coleman, I attempted to copy one of your wolf sketches and kept adding stuff. You have a wonderful flair with animal posture. Kley + Frazetta influenced, to be sure! Yours https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ei4a7iHVgAMOS0d?format=jpg&name=large Mine

This is my chimpanzee+lion creature. It was a hard challenge to start off with cause I'm always draw from reference, but it was surprisingly more fun to play around with my imagination instead off being bound by the reference. Trying to draw fast, fluid and loose just turned the lines into more scratchy and less fluid. More practices is needed🙈 Already loving the course and I can't wait for lessons about drawing from videos instead of pictures.

Here is my monkey design I did last night without reference all from memory. For my fantasy approach, I thought it would be fun to combine my monkey with an bettle like features morph thing going on here. This was fun to create took me about 30 minutes mostly on thinking on what fun creature to combine my monkey with mostly. I can't wait to see how this class is going to take me David Colemen. fun first assignment.

I went with the vampire ape. Inventing things without reference is HARD!

it looks interesting. I used to draw my snake in https://snake-game.io for 2 hours! It's hard and waste lots of time but I love it!
