I have little or no experience with modeling in clay, so I hope this is fine.
LESSON NOTES
A demonstration of the Physical Maquettes assignment.
ASSIGNMENTS

Overview

In this project, you will create a rough traditional maquette using simple household items. The goal here is not to create a finished sculpture but just a three-dimensional sketch that you can light and use as a reference for a drawing.

Materials

  • Scrap materials like cardboard, paper, fabric, wood... If you have clay, you can use it, too.
  • Kneadable erasers are useful, as are rubber bands, string, and wire.
  • Smartphone or photo camera.

Examples

Steps

  1. Gather your material. Anything goes! Fabric, paper, string, wire, clay, etc.
  2. Create a little sculpture. Let the material surprise you.
  3. Set up an interesting light direction.
  4. Extra points: create a story moment in your composition.
  5. Take a photo.
  6. Upload your image.

Meet these Challenges

  • Keep it simple.
  • Choose your lighting to create a clear sense of form.
  • Include more than one material, such as paper, wood, metal.

Duration

This project should take 1–3 hours to complete.

I tried this with scrap paper and a bent paperclip—let the shadows do the heavy lifting! A side lamp gave the form a crisp edge, and adding a tiny clay figure turned it into a mini scene. I often share quick progress clips on Geometry Dash’s creator mode to get feedback on shapes and lighting—surprisingly helpful. Thanks to the admin for the clear steps! https://geometrydashjump.com
