Squid Game portrait simplification
2yr
@gianna3
I chose a different portrait for simplification - as with the pears, I struggled soooo much to not get into details. I still feel that it's too detailed and isn't as clear-cut as I'd like it to be. I think for my next simplification I'll use mechanical pencils.
What do you guys think? Too detailed for a simplification? And do you see anything wrong with proportions or angles that I may have overlooked? Thanks!

Nice work once again :D
I do see a big improvement in terms of simplification and I think you got the spirit of the assignment with good shapes and the right level of detail--very well done. A few things to point out:
- The bounce light appears softer in the reference, soft enough where you could even simplify it into the main shadow for the jaw (on the left side of page), rather than creating a separate group, which could make things appear harsher.
- The eye white should still fall under the shadows of the surrounding area, so despite its literal color being white, it typically appears a shade of gray. For the eye on the left side of the page, you could also darken the eyelash area to be more distinctly part of the 5th value.
- The bangs can be tricky, but looking at it from afar/zoomed out, you can break down the forehead area into three values--face hit directly by light, face in shadow, and dark hair. It can help to keep the reference zoomed out/afar when grouping the values for the bangs too, to find the major group shapes.
- The shadow underneath her mouth facing the light doesn't appear as strong, so it can be simplified into larger light area.
I hope you find this useful as you continue forward in the course. Once again, this is a solid submission, so nicely done. I look forward to seeing your work in the future :)
