Simplified Animal Portraits - Shapes (Advice Needed)

@jaden99c
Still drawing almost everyday to continue to work on seeing shapes in photo references. Ive began to explore using different shapes and changing the size of the animals anatomy to convey a different look which was done in the Level 2 section of the course. Unfortunately I forgot to save the references again. I do need some advice. As a beginner artist should I try to be as accurate as possible with visible shapes before I begin to experiment with new shapes? I dont want to develop any bad habits by trying to create my own "style" without being accurate to the reference photo.

Your experimentation with changing shapes and proportion will be helpful, as you're recognizing the simple shapes and breaking down the complexity of your subject. From that, you can either keep them realistic or exaggerate them to your liking. It depends on what you want to achieve with your drawing. But, I can see you have a combination of realistic and more exaggerated shapes, especially with your cows. As long as you remember the foundations of simple shapes, go for it with trying some different ones!

Thanks so much. I thought i would stunt my progress by experimenting too soon. Glad to know Im still on the right path
