Self-Portrait
3d
Dan Blodgett
In celebration of Tax Day here in the USA, I posit a self-portrait of the artist, pissed off haha. Gouache and Prismacolor on Crescent illustration board. This is my first ever portrait painting, so it's a little timid in execution. I found it quite challenging, and I'm not sure I'm too happy with the results, but I learned a lot and understand how I can improve. The first of many, hopefully.

Please submit a picture of the mirror for my critique. I'm sure I deadpanned that enough...

But also I did like it. I don't think you get a notification for that, so I thought I'd make my cheerleading more obvious!

Hey! We still have one more day! ... right? 15th.... I'm reasonably sure I have one more day <_< Great job on the portrait though. Kind of neat to see you paint right over the red pencil, I've never actually watched a painting demonstration before so I have not clue how it's done.

Wussup bro. Thanks. I worked hard. My drawing skills are so far ahead of my painting skills it's nice to get uncomfortable and prove that an insufferable know-it-all like me still has so much to learn. Haha, I do the taxes for all my immediate family, so I start early. Lucky me haha. I picked up the red underdrawing thing from Nathan Fowkes. He does that with his watercolor landscapes (which are super beautiful, by the way) and usually leaves some of that red drawing visible in the finished piece. Such a boss move. So I copped it! I used a super cheap colored pencil that kept breaking on me, haha. It started off new(ish) and ended up only being a couple inches long by the time I got the drawing finished. But I like how you can still see it coming through in some places; it gives a subtle warm undertone to the whole thing.
