Hi guys! I am working on this painting of my brother's cat and I would like some feedback. I feel like I am having a hard time capturing his likeness and the color/texture of the fur. The painting photo is a bit squashed and in person the proportions match better. Any critique and feedback is welcome! Feel free to add your own painting you would like critiques on in this post chain!

My first bird painting. Any constructive comments are welcome. 12x16 acrylic. I've been painting for 1 year, 30 pieces.

This is a beautiful painting. I love the composition and perspective. I would recommend studying/using references of birds. The wings are these nice spread out shapes but with just little feathers attached on the end. I think studying reference of bird wings and feathers you will notice how much they overlap and layer the entire wing not just the tips. I would also recommend looking at the color of your sun. I really like the light burst and strong yellow but it isn't what you would actually observe in nature. So if you are striving for a more realistic painting I would look into changing the sun to a very bright white with warm tones, and it should be the brightest thing in the painting. I am actually learning color theory from Marco Bucci right now. He's a very good teach, I recommend you check out his free videos here on Proko and his Youtube. Over all this is an amazing painting with with strong layout, texture and mark making. The form on the bird's head is especially impresive to me. Keep it up and excited to see what you do inside another year. Cheers!
