Low contrast inking examples anyone?

I found out generally it's quite hard to ink a low-contrast scene. Are there any great examples that shows inking in very low-contrast situation? like foggy or non-direct lighting? I only have a few examples which their executions are all painstakingly slow: - Bernie Wrightson the Frankenstein book - Some Evan Cagle's ink works like this https://dodecahedron-cylinder-rxk8.squarespace.com/illustration/2019/3/3/golgotha - Nico Delort's ink works... I think those two all do claybord or combination of both black and white inks. I just would like to know if there's any low contrasty inked images that you guys like? I haven't really been able to do so. I have learned some edge control from the above artists' examples but I wonder if you guys know more about this.

Franklin Booth! Who I'm sure influenced both Wrightson and Cagle's work to some extent.

And it's probably not what you're asking for, but I cannot pass up an opportunity to post some Sergio Toppi inks as well : )

The Girl from the Other Side by Nagabe Is a story told in the deep dark of a forest. Its story is focused on this element a great deal and may help you as the metaphor is that light and dark are blurred there in morality. <3

I'm afraid you picked some very high level profile already, hard to find any other that can match :p I personally study Moebius/Jean Giraud inking style which is less "painterly" than your examples but still very detailed. And many old (very old sometime) author like Gordon Browne, Raymond de la Nézière, Maxine Lalanne and all gravure style I can find in bookstore around. They all use line direction to show form/volume indication as in your examples and longer/shorter/point/zigzag lines to make effect and render texture. In the end it's long and patient drawing... it can be less detailed to save some time and only use contour as indication for form, but again it depend on which finishing level you aim.

Thanks for the suggestions :D. I have not known those artists except Moebius, will sure dig deeper. Moebius does have very nice line drawings with a ton of details, I like it very much, but at the moment I'm trying to get lighting and shadow together with a well-expressed mid-tone area, Moebius does lack a bit of shadowing effect (to put into contrast of the ones I listed). Yeah it's all about patient. I was just about to grasp how to make interesting textures in the mid-tone area according to the volume and structure of an object, I used to do a lot of plain straight hatching which sometimes end up looking good but in a lot of situations they ended up flattening the whole volume and I think I have just figured out a way through this. Still a long way to go :D
