Looking for critique - Cake illustration

Hi! So I am back with the finished illustration of the Tiramisu strawberry cake. The concept is to show how sweet and delicious the cake is. The cake is the center of interest. I have two versions and I'm not sure which one is better. I feel like the chocolate details on the whipped cream make the whipped cream look too dark from a distance. On the other hand I feel like it kind of adds more flavour to it, I don't know. xD All feedback is very appreciated! Thank you!

I do think it should have more contrast when it comes to its values. Make the background more dark in value than your subject. After that, modify your cast shadows, intensify it as per your need. (Not sure what's your target though but value adjustment is a good start!) A good method to determine if your composition is reading well is to just blur or squint your eyes! When I blur my eyes, the point of interest (the cake) is not really reading well. I do like the illustration overall, that seems a very delicious cake!

This looks very good. I like how many lines point towards center of interest. Also, The chocolate details on whipped cream do improve it, and make it more interesting. The biggest opportunity appears to me is to consider depiction of shadows/ values on whipped cream, it appears to me to look too dark and heavy feeling which kind of takes away light and fluffy nature. Perhaps try a few alternative versions of lighting shadow values on just whipped cream and compare for yourself if it feels different. I hope that feedback is helpful.

Thank you! I read every critique very carefully and try to extract as much as I can from each. Thanks to yours I worked more on making sure certain elements were not bleding into other elements and you also pointed out that the tablecloth was too saturated. So thank you once more!

I wonder if my critique influenced your color choices and if they did in what way. I'm being a bit self indulgent here and forgive me I know this is supposed to be about you but if you don't mind please humor me. My line of thinking here is maybe if I know when my suggestions are helpful and when they're not being helpful I can get information that will develop my critical thinking skills. So please humor me but dont sugar coat it, If I played no role I want to know. thanks :) (also I would not be able to critique this at all, I know my limits. However I'm great at brain storming if you knew you wanted to do something but not sure what to do. I don't think you would need to for this. It looks pretty much a polished piece to me)
