Introduction and some Artwork

Hello Proko Community, My name is Andre. Born in Germany, raised in Austria, married a Brazilian woman. I studied mechanical engineering and work in the aerospace industry. I always wanted to do illustration, but back when I had to choose a path of life, this wasnt really a thing. There was a lot of graphic design, which I really did not enjoy. In 2015 I decided to study again with a British University via an online course (this time illustration) and after 3-4 years I was rather disappointed by the total lack of practical exercises, teachers who didnt even know how to draw and (again) focus on graphic design instead. I did learn a few useful things, but not what I was aiming for. Glad I found Proko and I now continue studying online. I have two small kids (2 and 4), and getting everything squashed in a day (work, family, art and studytime) doesnt always go as planned. I am happy I can check out the Proko 2.0 and hope that I can find a nice community to boost my learning experience. I am illustrating a story a befriended author wrote, I try to do comics and study with Proko based on my weaknesses (which I have plenty). I do enjoy traditional media like ink and water colour, but mostly use digital stuff (recently switched to clip studio paint after 15 years of photoshop) for finished "work". I really tried to get the hang with charcoal pencils as shown in the Proko lessons. But I end up breaking them and breaking them and breaking them. After 30-60mins I run out of the time I had that day. So I do the lessons now with regular pencil or sometimes ink. :) Best wishes from Augsburg (near Munich). Andre

Hallo Andre. Nice to meet you and nice to see your art here ^___^ Your inking work impresses! And I like the compositions here. Are these inktober works the actual illustrations for your befriended author's story or the topics were officially from inktober? Also regarding charcoal pencils - have you tried them from a variety of different companies? I've got some hard ones which break really rarely, though I noticed that it very much depends on a company that produces them - some do hard pencils which are very fragile, others create ones which last much longer without breaking. By the way, glad for you that you finally can study in a way that helps you to head for what you really aim.

Oh, I forgot, thanks for the charcoal tip. I have to admit, I had some pretty cheap ones. I might try out a better one on occasion. Right now, I am almost always using: https://www.staedtler.com/de/de/produkte/mars-technico-780-fallminenstift-780-c-pr5.html with 2mm lead, HB and 4B. I can extent the lead and sharpen it flat if I want to.

Hello Yana, The inktober works were for an alternative monster mash lnktober prompt list. I thought, I would not have the time to participate, but friends urged me to and I am so glad I did it. My friend writes crime and mystery stories (books and short stories) and asked me if I would illustrate his work. I always feel ilke I am way to bad, but this pushes me to try to live up to the expectations and also a reason why I started with proko. I want to put light to all the dark areas of my patchwork drawing wisdom. You can find his short stories as audio books or transcripts on his webpage or instagram. You should be able to understand german though, otherwise it will be gibberish :) https://www.instagram.com/_the_real_jms_/ https://www.johannesmariastangl.de BTW, the characters (in colour) above are concepts from my sketchbook for personae in his stories. So, all imagination stuff.
