Gesture Simplification

In the first lecture, Proko said to be aware of how much simplification we are doing while drawing a gesture so as to not oversimplify them. But in a 30 min gesture study, how do you capture all the emotions, like, forshortening, twists etc.
Think it depends on what you want to achieve with your gesture drawing.
The very simple gesture drawings of 1 Min is in my opinion to get the first overall impression and the feeling on how gesture works. After understanding this concept you get to take more time and detail, to define the gesture. I use the different Level of gesture drawing for different purposes.
The fast ones I use for loose sketches when I wand to get an impression very fast - like from live drawings or when studying proportions.
When I wand to draw a detailed picture, I take my time to define the gesture. Sometimes a gesture drawing takes up to an hour (depending on the complexity of the reference).
woah, an hour? I once heard Micheal Hampton say that, their would be no point if the gestures take too long, since they are supposed to be very first draft of a figure and thus needs to be fast, so that they can be discarded if one doesn't like the gesture and move on to next. But hey, thanks for the reply, it makes sense, that different gestures are for different purpose
