[feedback] Gesture drawing
2yr
@artichoke
I'm 37 years old and never thought I could draw before. I've decided to try learning anyway, and have been practicing for the past 4 or 5 months. These are a few gesture drawings and the references. I'd appreciate any feedback you have. (I'd say each of these took about a minute or so -- I haven't started doing them to a timer yet.) I don't have the time for art school (job and 2 kids), and I don't really have an art 'mentor'. But I figure the community here is the next best thing. (It felt about time I started reaching out for feedback and advice.) Thanks!

Not critique, but for what it's worth I'm going on 33, full time IT job, part-time engineering student. I started less than a year ago from ground zero, but consistent practice shows clear improvement. Draftsmanship is just a human skill like any other. Like popping wheelies or learning to cook, with a little mindful analysis and learning from mistakes you'll only get awesomer.

Hey artichoke, Good for you, it's never too late to learn to draw and make art, you wont be disappointed, but I guarantee you'll be really frustrated from time to time :) I like the gesture you have in your drawings, it's hard for some to loosen up and really exaggerate the pose, but you have done it pretty well. What your drawings are lacking is some form and dimension. Gesture with some structure keep the figure from looking like it's made from noodles. I did a quick sketch to show you what I mean, I hope it helps :)

Oh! Most importantly, have fun and enjoy your drawing time.

Coming back after reading your posts. Don't give up! I've been drawing gestures, beans, robo-beans for years. I also spend time creating measured drawings. It is important to break up your practice. Don't get discouraged. Try to feel the gesture... heh sounds like, "use the force, Luke." That's not too far off.

I agree with Steve. I made a quick (60-second) gesture. Here are my thoughts Artichoke. Sorry, I don't know where I came up with Covin in my notes.
