Extra Spine Practice
4yr
Benjamin Goerge
Hi everyone, I’ve done a few spine studies. I think they turned out okay, though there are some places things could be improved. I think I struggle when a landmark like the clavicle or sternum are covered by the arms. When I went through the assignments, I had a few times where I struggled placing the spine, but after watching the critique video and noting Stan’s advice on using the sternum as the center line to gauge where the spine would be helped. I think where I struggled most is the picture of Laura with the foreshortening of the figure and how to get the spine to not appear to be bending. Line quality is also something I am having a continuous struggle with, but I think I’m getting better at being more decisive, I just need to ghost and use less pressure. Any criticisms and suggestions are welcome.

Looks good overall, @Benjamin Goerge! I think the transition from the Thoracic to the Cervical portion on Marcia could be a bit smoother. Also, I think the back of the ribcage is a bit too rounded on Chanon. Other than that, maybe Just try spending a bit more time to clean up the looser sketch lines. To make the viewing a bit easier, it could help if you'd post a collage image of the reference plus your drawing side by side (instead of separate images). You can also post your assignments directly on the respective lesson's page by the way! Hope this helps!

Thanks Liandro! I can definitely see what you mean with the drawings of Marcia And Chanon. I am continually working on my lines and am trying to do exercises daily. I think I need to work on continuing to monitor the lines as I draw, as I keep getting into the drawing and start making marks too dark or not as deliberately. I will definitely do a collage for my next submission to make it easier. Thank you so much for your help!!
