Drawing Basics Class Apple and Portrait
2yr

@tylermferrari
I have never done digital art. Apple drawing shows before (top) and after (bottom) video.
I also tried the portrait but my drawing didn't feel right. I have not done the after yet for the portrait but advice is appreciated. I felt like the face just looked off? I had a much easier time when blocking in values, but it still doesn't look like the portrait.
Help appreciated, thank you!
First of all, I can tell you are getting confused by all the different values of red in the apple. The way you have the values, it is killing the feeling of form. Form is the most important part of the drawing, it gives the object dimension and a 3D feel. I did a quick sketch to show you how to simplify things to create a solid drawing.
In the portrait, you have some values way lighter than they are in the reference. This is common, but with practice it becomes easier to evaluate values by comparing them to other values in the reference. For example: the white part of the left eye and cheek are way too light. We know that by comparing it to the value of the light side of the face, are they the same?
I hope this is helpful :)
