Hey guys, this is an illustration I made for a personal project featuring a hero I designed this trimester for school. I wanted to make it in the style of comic book covers. The colours I used are gouache, on Bristol paper. Any feedback is of course welcome.I always found it difficult to use colours in my comics , and I’m also coming to grips with the different materials.

These are looking quite 80s futuristic! I like the vibrant colours and the muscle shapes. You seem to capture that pretty well. How did you achieve such vibrant colour mix? I use gouache as well but I can't get such vibrant purple and green... Would you mind sharing your colour palette? Thank you!

Thank you for the wonderful comments my friend. Of course! So ,I started with an under painting using a purple, mixed from Rose and Light Blue (Cyan). Then using Rose, a little bit of Cyan and a tiny bit of vermillion I mixed the light Rose Purples on the hero’s pants. Basically the whole thing is structured around Rose and Cyan. For the vibrancy of colours, I got reference from Tim Jacobus , the illustrator who created the Goosebumps covers. So that means that the main structure is value, and everything colour is a vibrant colour as long as the value relationships remain correct. So for instance in my shadows I preferred to give some unaltered ultramarine tones, mixed with a tiny bit of Rose. ultramarine blue is by default darker than the colours used in the light side, so since the principle of the shadow side being darker than the light is being kept, I do not grey my colours ,instead I keep them saturated or vibrant. I hope that makes sense. As for the greens , they are essentially Cyan mixed with some Yellow and made pastel with White. Keep in mind though, the glow effect you see was added in photoshop , the only thing I added digitally. My colours : Rose Light Blue (Cyan) Vermillion Viridian Yellow Ultramarine Blue Titanium White Ivory Black
