Bookmarking system

Having some kind of automatic yet flexible bookmarking system for course videos would be really useful. So, it would mark your progress as you watched videos but also could be overridden or reset.
This would be increasingly useful as more courses are added to the classroom. It might only be a few days or a few weeks, but the first thing I want to know when reopening a course is "Now, where was I?"
Or I might have watched a couple of videos in a section, but they didn't really sink in and I need to watch them again. If I can uncheck them, it will make it easier to work out where I got to in the course when I open it again.
Ideally, this bookmarking could be toggled on individual videos or on whole course sections.

Im a bit confused about the suggestion. The current system seems to do everything you described except the ability to unmark as completed. I think having another separate system that is almost identical with one small difference would confuse users. How would people know that being able to unmark as completed is the difference between the two systems? Maybe I'm missing something?
btw, we are working on a fix to allow you to undo mark as complete for a short period of time. To solve the case when you accidentally click it, and want to undo right away.
Yes, the current system would be fine if it was flexible.
I think the flexibility would be genuinely valuable.
Here are some examples:
- You come back to a course you took a year ago because you want a refresher. (Currently: no way to track progress as all videos are permanently marked as watched.)
- You start a new section of a course but only watch a few of videos in that section, but some life event prevents you continuing for a while. When picking up the course where you left off, you decide to unmark the few you watched so you can start at the beginning. (Currently: not possible.)
- You watch a video but were interrupted or distracted, or it was complex and you need to watch it again. (Currently, when fix is implemented: Can only do that in for a limited time, not days later.)
There are probably other cases.
The point is, this is a really useful tool for learning. A one-time bookmark is the same as saying, You can have a bookmark for this textbook, but only for the first time you read it!
*Possible Solution*
I realise this clashes with a points system. So, how about an icon which appears permanently after the first watching (a simple green tick, perhaps) which would be used by the points system. (It could even have a tooltip hover, 'You watched this on 7 Aug 2020')
The bookmark system could have a different icon with a different colour. Maybe a hollow bookmark icon which fills in with a colour when watched. It would fill in automatically as the videos were watched. But it would be flexible, ideally with whole sections or courses being able to be reset with one click, as well as on individual videos.
More work for the devs, I know. [Cue sounds of cursing from the Proko dev team!]
Would anyone else find this useful?

@Jim A @pinkapricorn what do you guys think about having another button like "add to favorites" next to the "mark as complete" button with a "re-watch favorites" tab added to your classroom? The bookmark system we have now is meant to help track your progress for the overall course and users get points for completing lessons. We can't toggle it on and off, but I also agree with you that it would be nice to go back to lessons you know you'll want to re-watch without having to dig or search for them on the site.
Would that be a workable solution?
@John B Bookmarks would allow you to track your progress (the main use) and could be reset to allow for rewatching the course. I don't see how favorites would help with this unless it includes some kind of tracking system. In which case, why not include the tracking system with the main course and keep the course structure intact?
The bookmark system as it is now would be fine if it could be reset. But once you've played a video (or accidently clicked the 'watched' button) it's permanently marked as watched.
Flexible bookmarking and getting points seem to clash with eachother. I wonder if there's a way to separate them.
@John B Hmm... *rubs chin in deep thought* So bookmarks on this site are already spoken for and doing a different job and thus if you are to implement the functionality @Jim A suggested then you're going to need to call it something else? Yeah?
How do I feel about that? Hmmm......... Not able to say because I'm having trouble visualizing what this would be like if implemented.
When you talk about the "my classroom tabs" do you mean the navigation links to places like My Classroom > Dashboard and My Classroom > Courses ?
Would it be accessed through My Classroom > Re-watch Favorites? And then you click that and you're taken to a list?
@Jim A Wow this is not something I would have ever thought of to suggest on my own but seeing how you explained it here it looks like it could be pretty useful. If this is implemented I'll give it a try :)
