I would like to dabble to find my niche. Where do I begin?

I think a good question is "where do you want to end?" In other words, why do you want to dabble and where would you like to get to? Not in 'style' but in activity or profession. To just get started, get yourself some materials and set some time to practice. Even if you do nothing but scribble lines or make paint splotches, just try to build the habit of practice (if you are serious about art anyway). If you like a particular field (e.g. architecture, portraits), look at what are the important skills and work on those fundamentals. For example perspective is very important for almost everything, but if doing portraits instead you'd focus on the human face, proportions, structure etc. Always work on fundamentals, line, form, value. These are important for all niches, at least if you want to not hit massive roadblocks later through shortcuts. Finally, have fun! By that I mean it shouldn't become a chore. It can be hard and at times challenging, but if you have purpose and goals, it has value. If you're doing it 'just because' it's time to evaluate. Good luck :)

Hey, @Kellen McMullin! Besides all the advice already provided, I’d also suggest you stay attentive to what drives you, what catches you eye, what appeals to your senses and mind. Finding a “niche” in art can be surprisingly similar to a journey of self-discovery. Maybe try not to overthink it: it’s no so much about the trends, hypes or what sells best, but rather what gives us that immediate emotional response, that gut feeling like “That’s it! That’s what I wanna do”. Hope this helps. 🙂

At the beginning the most important thing you can do is just to have fun. There are no rules here. Any materials, any subject as long as you are curious about it, just get started. "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step" ~ Laozi

Hi @Kellen McMullin I agree with @Rose Bernatovich. Figure Drawing Fundamentals is a great place to start. You can find that course at proko.com/figure

I think I'm going to start with the challenges. like you I don't quite have a style, or a niche. My hope is that I will get some traction by trying to produce something... Lol all I've accomplished so far is feeling like I don't know what I'm doing!

You could take Proko's figure drawing fundamentals, where you would start with basic drawing skills that are applied to the figure while you look around to see what might interest you for further study. I hope that helps.
