Both of the pencil drawings were done before I watched the demo. Both of the colored pencil drawings were done while watching the demo. I thought using colored pencils would be a nice little change but they were a lot harder to control... not sure if I'll be using them to much in the future but we'll see. Any critiques would be appreciated :)

You can really see the improvement between the first and second attempts! I think your lines could still be quite a bit more confident in the second drawings, but the subjects are definitely much clearer than in the first two. Regarding colored pencils, I find they are a lot softer and I prefer using them for very loose sketches and warm-up exercises, but for more controlled drawings regular pencils work much better. Hope this helps :)

Hi all! Two versions of the pear, grateful for any feedback :)
@rulersreach
Hey! The things that stand out to me is the cast shadow in the first one, which kind of makes it look like the pear is floating because it's very round and wide, and the light side edge in the second one, which almost blends into the background. It would probably pop a bit more if you made the background a little darker there. Just a suggestion, hope it helps :)

Hi! I just started this course. I would love some feedback from anyone here. I first attempted by myself, then attempted the pear along with Stan in the demo, and attached is my attempt to do the second pear reference photo. I'm very much a beginner. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to look at this. :)

Hey! Something that stands out to me when I look at your drawing is that the darker halftone is barely noticeable, but in the reference I think there is quite a big area in the lights that is darker. I see it like a whole wide strip down the middle of the pear, as well as a narrower strip along the edge of the shadow at the bottom that you did include in the drawing. If that makes sense haha. You can really see it if you squint! Hope this helps :)

I’m trying to follow this course using an iPad Pro and Procreate. I started this assignment with an image of an orange that I had taken at my desk and struggled with it for a few hours. The pencil brushes in procreate are pretty unruly imo. I had a terrible time controlling value and textures were unpredictable. I’m still looking for some brushes that can emulate graphite, and I will happily take any suggestions. I wound up taking the route of more or less “painting” the planes of the subject, and anyone can see where I had started blending some of the darker strokes. I have a lot of work to do if I want to keep up with this course using digital tools.

Hey! I'm also a user of Procreate and I really like the feel of the Procreate Pencil and Peppermint brushes. I tend to use the Procreate Pencil brush for drawing (as in, to emulate the tip of a pencil) and the Peppermint brush for shading (as in, to emulate the side of a pencil, playing around with different degrees of opacity to get lighter/darker values), and I think the results look decent. They're part of the default brushes that come with the software (in the Sketching tab, specifically). I've seen people recommend other default sketching brushes such as Derwent, so just play around with them and see which one feels better for you. Hope this helps :)
