Hey, I'm an artist wannabe and wanted to know what a style is exactly? I've been told not to worry about it but I still want to know what it is.

so u study reality and u then modify it to make it more appealing... e.g if u think babies look cute, u make the eyes of a face bigger and also forehead bigger with still some characteristics of a adult face and to do that u have to study the features of an adult face and a baby face, the skull structure etc.. u can take inspiration from other artists u like by studying how they modify reality and make it appealing and by doing that u will develop your own tastes.. your tastes will define your art style.

Style is what you decide to leave out , what you decide to include. Its also what you decide to change. It will occur naturally because you will tend to include things that you like and leave out things you don't. You can just keep observing nature and painting/drawing what is moving/inspiring to you and the style will naturally appear.
Some people make up a style for themselves by using only certain types of shape or certain proportions - that type of style is more like a formula that you place on yourself and then force you drawing/paintings to adhere to.
at least thats my idea of what style is.
