Somehow I missed that there was an assignment until I got a proko email. This was the first time I used the armature stand, and the threaded rod and I didn't get along. It ended up being too long and I wasn't able to move the spine, so I wasn't able to get as much gesture as I wanted. I wasn't going to submit anything because I wasn't happy with it. But the ghosts of instructors past started haunting me to remind me that submitting something is better than submitting nothing at all.

I tried to do this absolutely ridiculous pose based off a Loomis gesture. I think I probably could have pushed the gesture farther, but I didn't realize that until I had the photos in front of me. It was fun to try and figure out nonetheless.

Even though I do figure drawing, I had some trouble trying to ignore the details. I didn't intend for them to be smoothed at all but I was working in a warm room so they smoothed some just from handling them. I'm open to any suggestions of things to work on in future gestures.

I did ones at 6, 9, and 12 inches. I imagine the 6 inch one would have been easier with a thinner wire, but I only have this. I used the sharpie to mark the wire with the measurements, and that helped a lot while figuring out the process.

First armatures I’ve ever made. Six, nine, and twelve inches. I’m looking forward to gesture sculpting!

Hey everyone, I'm doing the figure sculpting class to hopefully improve my drawing with a better understanding of form. It's a lot of fun so far, even though it feels like I'll have clay under my fingernails for the rest of eternity. I had already bought monster clay before the 5$ challenge was posted, but aside from that I only used aluminum foil and paperclips.

Lane - you should make and market your modified drawing board! I would buy one!

There is actually one like it called the Sketchboard Pro you might be interested in if you want a board. I love mine.
