uhhh!, I am sad to say my ghoul is sadly uninspired. I am more pleased with the Bernie Wrightson inspired background. Oh well, perhaps my muse will speak to me later.

HI Brecca, I have been looking at your pictures and I think you need to punch up the core shadows in order to create a greater sense of Depth. For instance, take the image of the woman with the short black hair. The shadow just under her jawline is darkest at the point where the neck meets the jaw. And just above the jaw is a reflected light that creates a border. These two effects work together to give the impression of depth. To learn more about shading and how to create depth check out Dorian Iten's great lessons on shading. watch his Youtube video and you will learn a whole lot.

Here's a graph of a rainbow I made forever ago. And another graph. I think it's possible to make art using parametric graphs and people have done it before, like this batman graph, if you have the patience for it (which I don't). Origami definitely is a good mix of art and math. Angles, efficiency, and more. Origami is also being used by some engineers today. My art history teacher recently said that antagonism between math and the arts is a cultural thing, and that math (especially geometry) was an important part of educating artists in Islamic societies in the past. Math and geometry can definitely be used to figure out what things would look like and make cool patterns. Some people make art based on mathematical rules. Some judge art based on math. Some people make art inspired by math. Art and math are often a lot more connected than we give them credit.

I love this stuff. And I never heard of parametric graphs to make art! Thanks for mentioning it. I will have to check it out.

I mean the golden spiral and Fibonacci sequence are pretty important in composition.

yeah, that is true, but I think there is a lot more going on. M.C. Escher is probably the most famous example of an artist who embraced mathematics in his designs, but there are others. Composition, the cosign function in Lambersian falloff, the geometry of shape carving. etc. I am slo interested in the question, do artists dislike the idea of art and math being linked. I would love to hear what artists on this sight think.

What are the links between art and math, and not just perspective. Fractacls, Chaos theory, Information theory, algorithms, tessellation etc. I would love to talk to anyone who has thoughts on this subject.

Wasn't exactly sure how finished the work needs to be for this challenge, or if it's simply just doing something right from your head, but here is one from me. At some point I hope to have a new scanner so I don't have to take photos with my phone. :D Also, first post here!

This is perfect ... I only paint from imagination and I have never once planned one of these, I tend to just randomly do brush strokes or paint a sky and then just pick our shapes and keep going until I think it looks cool. Feedback super welcome, I have been doing art for 2 years and want to get to a stage where I can paint whatever landscape I like, not just noxious dusklike hellscapes ... This one is called "A Balrog is Forged" and I did this after re-watching the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions, the Balrog was always so cool and there is not much about them in the lore so I took a lot of liberties.

I like the drama of the light and the energy of the red embers. It's a very emotional piece.

Hello all, Here is an image straight out of my imagination. I am somewhat happy with it, but of course I want it to be stronger. This was inspired by some friends during a game. I would love any comments, and a full on critique would be great.

Hi, I am looking to improve my gesture, use of color, and anything else that needs improving. My goals are to become a viable freelance artist and a teacher. I work with traditional media and experiment with some quasi exotic materials. Please make me better!

Hello! I'm Zoungy, an arts instructor in Pennsylvania. I've chosen these pieces to share my interest in narrative, imagination, color and light. They are an assortment of physical and digital media works. My goals are to improve on these skills to be a better teacher, and to use my skills in other creative opportunities that may arise. Have you been utilizing layers at all? I think the second picture is the best. You might think about tightening up some of the rendering.

I am experimenting with plastics plates to create a sense of depth in this images. I am not using photoshop or any other program to make layers these are actual physical layers I am using to create depth. Has anyone experimented with this kind of technique and are there any pointers you could give me. thanks

the texture on the picture is great. The hand is out of proportion to the rest of the body but it's a great image overall.

I love that you have done this episode, and I would love for you to talk more about The comic code authority and Wertham's work to censor comics. I am especially curious because you seem to be sympathetic to Wertham's program to cleanse cartooning. If you could also talk about how Wertham and his crusade led to the rise of the super hero genre and all that has meant for Pop culture that would be great.
