Hi! Here's my comic submission for the storytelling challenge. The short scene will hopefully speak for itself, but here's a brief overview of the backdrop I had in mind:  In early Christian Poland the tension between the old pagan faith and Christianity is mounting and feelings are running high not only between people but also between the spirits of old, folk saints and devils. A new dawn is rising, a war is afoot and those who want to take part the least will come to suffer the most. And that's that :) BTW, the title, "Zorza", means "aurora". Cheers!

Good morning/afternoon/night to everyone! New Proko member here. I'm basically an analog artist, but recently I'm starting to try digital illustration. That's why I'm posting both, the paper and pen sketch and the final digital work (used Krita for this). Excuse me if the quality of these images is not proper. When I saw this challenge's theme, it enlightened me in a way I never expected. I really like books and illustrations about them, so, after thinking a lot, I decide to jump in and put my skills to test. I'm conscious this artwork is rough, beginner-ish and slightly bent to a side, I made it "freehandedly": the idea just found me working and I developed it on the go. With that said, I actually like the overall result. It's the best I could do with what I have at this moment. The book I chose is "Hanteringen av odöda" ("Handling the undead" in Swedish) by John Ajvide Lindqvist. This horror novel treats the topic of undead people in the most unconventional way ever: a warm, spiritual and humanistic one. The first time I read it, I ended up with some tears, I was oddly heartwarmed. I have seen covers of this book, but I think none of them capture this book's essence, so here I bring my best attempt to represent it. Thanks for reading, I know it's long. And also thanks to Madi Harper and the Proko team for bringing this challenge, it's awesome participating and seeing other members' work too. Greetings from Colombia!

As for the horror book the cover is suprisingly heartwarming. The gesture feels very gentle, warm, and distressing for me at the same time, since it's flesh-hand. I utmostly enjoy that. If people are sensible to "feel what they see", I believe it is particularly true for hands, so that adds a creepy sense to it. I wonder if the undead hand isn't too dark in some places. It could be more visible., with balancing the lights popping out of shadows. Good luck in the contest!

Hey yall, this is my design for The Metamorphosis. I finished the book recently and I was kind of surprised that there weren't more interesting book covers for such an iconic book, so I took a crack at designing my own. I hope you guys like it, I also posted a couple other designs on my instagram @ruby.taylor.art :)

Hi, this is my final submission for "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau. Probably not my favorite book, but I read it once and I found it very cozy. I tried to keep it on a traditional feel but also with a modern touch.

The Little Prince was the first book I remember reading in its entirety, I'm never been a good reader actually, thus that one felt like an accomplishment, with the years I kept coming back to it, is quite an interesting and rather philosophical little story. Through more than three decades since I read it, I notice that even when is a very well known title and character, very few people has actually read the full book, don't know why, maybe people think is for little kids? (not quite). One of its highlights is been the illustrations, possible some of the most iconic in the last century, thus I felt a bit daunting to choose this book for the challenge, at the end is for me paying homage to the story that stirred my mind since I was a kid. Original piece was done with Ink on Bristol paper, final is a digitally colored.

Hello! Here is my submission for the April 2022 Proko Challenge. It was really hard to choose a favourite book (I don't actually think it is possible!) but my cover is for the Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander. I read this series so many times as a child and have a lot of fondness for the characters. For this cover, I employed hand lettering. The Horned King (the story's antagonist) is the centre of the design, framed in by a silhouette of Hen Wen, the oracle pig. I would love to hear your feedback! It was a great challenge being limited to 2 to 3 colors - the restrictions really push you to be creative. :)

The urban legend says that the talented engineers at Wacom created a special -and very complicated- experimental secret code for all their products every time they needed to fight their own creative blocks. Until one day I've found this to be true! It was after many hours trying to solve a creative challenge, I fell asleep on my keyboard and, I just don't know how but my face got the right code for my Intuos Pro! Intense lights and sounds woke me up... my drawing pad was no longer on my desk, it was standing next to me! waiting to introduce itself -himself!- as Wacoman, protector of the creative nature ready to take me into his never-ending fight against the relentless creative block.

T.F.i.L. (Acronym for "The Floor is Lego", the hero name chosen by him) is a hero capable of changing the surface of anything he touches into Lego bricks. This power only works when used on inanimate things or his own body. The bricks come in many shapes, sizes and colors. They can be arranged in a consistent pattern across the object's surface or tilted for extra damage, and can also be used as stair steps to reach high places. It all started at the end of 2027, when Thomas Phillips was hanging out with some friends and they were approached by a funny looking man, who was selling candies. The man called himself "The Candymaker" and claimed that his candies tasted better than anything else in the market.  Doubting what he had just said, the friends bought some from him (at a surprisingly reasonable price) and ate them. Each candy was shaped like a different object, Thomas ate the one shaped like a Lego brick. It really didn't taste like anything he had ever eaten before, which raised his curiosity. When asking if he could buy another one, Thomas received a weird answer: "One person, one candy. That is the rule of The Candymaker." After saying this, the funny looking man turned his back and walked away. That was the second weirdest night in Thomas' life. A month later, Thomas woke up, got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash his face. After washing his face, he looked into the mirror and saw something weird... there were dozens of Lego bricks apparently attached to his face, some even looked like they were coming out of his skin. Thomas looked at his hands, and there were Lego bricks all over it too. Thomas was terrified. On that day, the same thing was repeated over and over on every news channel: People are gaining super powers. All over the country, hundreds of people seemed to have awakened some kind of special ability, out of nowhere. "Why Lego bricks?" was what Thomas kept asking himself, until he remembered that night, and then things started making some sense... Have all those people eaten The Candymaker's candies? Is that how they acquired super powers? One thing was certain: Thomas would not waste this opportunity. After several months of training, Thomas was ready. Making use of his unique ability, he started fighting crime and saving people, he was now known as T.F.i.L, but some people called him "teefil" because it was easier to say it this way, or just "fil" (which sounded oddly familiar to the beginning of his last name). Well, people called him a lot of things, to be honest, but what matters is: Thomas is now a superhero. And he fights, not only for justice, but also for answers... Who was The Candymaker? Will he ever come back? What was his plan, giving all those people super powers? How is he even capable of giving people super powers? Thomas can only wonder... And I hope he finds out someday.
