Hey guys! From different points of view I was able to contemplate several submissions here. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on the results, regardless of the final result. The process was very pleasant and we took it with us forever. My references came from either pexels or google images. Good luck everyone and I hope we can still learn a lot together! These are my submissions. All are digital and I used photoshop or krita to make them. Thanks to Proko and Tiffanie for the opportunity.

Here's my entry! Had to dig out the gouache for the first time in a while. I didn't realize how challenging painting that small really is. Was still a lot of fun!

Thanks for doing this, I really enjoyed listening to Tiffanie last time she was on and I learned so much so I can't wait to hear some feedback from her and Proko! I can really see the benefit in doing these thumbnails -although I was reluctant when I realised how small they needed to be. Seeing big shapes and comparing values/hues is much easier when you can 'zoom out' in thumbnail mode. This is my first time taking part but I've been following these challenges for a while, glad I can finally take part! Good luck to everyone!

My second entry for the Tiffanie Mang/Proko Challenge 'Bellarine Sunsets'. Five tiny 5 x 5 cm, oils. They are all scenes from close to where I live. In winter we have short daylight and we get some amazing skies in the late afternoon. I haven't included reference photos because I would like to work some big paintings from them.

Here are my submissions! I painted these from reference photos I took on a trip to beautiful British Columbia this past autumn. The landscape there is so different to what I'm used to, so I wanted to capture the mountains, forests, and dazzling sunsets. These are painted in gouache on watercolour board, using 6 colours plus white (lemon yellow, yellow ochre, cadmium red, permanent rose, phthalo blue, ultramarine blue). I made a bunch of other ones but decided on these for my final 5. Great challenge! Love to see everyone's work.

I'm gonna repeat my comment from Instagram here, I think we have a winner :P I love how beautifully you pushed the colours in all of these, comparing them to the references makes them look even more stunning. The street corner sunset is still my favourite ^^

Thanks for the contest! My biggest challenge with these digital thumbs was avoiding the urge to zoom. I had to change my hotkey in Photoshop from zoom to rotate image to avoid doing it. I spent about 30 minutes on each... too long for a thumbnail? I may had added more detail than necessary but I wanted them to be presentable at a level that I am pleased with. The reference images are taken mostly from my work commute.

Here are my entries and references, tried to "push" the colour quite a lot. These are in either gouache or casein, painted with a 3/4" flat or #8 round. I think I preferred using the round by the end. A fun challenge!

There are so many great submissions already! Here are my entries and the photos I used as references. I had a lot of fun with the challenge, and it helped me identify areas for improvement. I feel that my color choices are too timid and literal at times. Also, I got carried away with the details in a few of these. Any critiques are welcome.

My first attempt at thumbnail painting! Simplifying rocks into readable shapes was pretty hard but I tried my best to apply Tiffanie's tips. Please let me know if you have any comments!

Second entry trying to study how to paint forests. I find them so complicated but how to differentiate with clumps of green? The first two were done from screenshots, from Marnie and Me and Ponyo respectively because I love how Studio Ghibli does forest scenes. However not sure if these studies worked as thumbnails so I went back to some more gouache tutorials and started working from photos again. Painted with a Number 10 round brush (it's all I have) and the Caran Dache pan gouache set which is unfortunately difficult to paint thickly with. Constructive criticism welcome!

If you're having trouble making complicated landscapes readable, the best solution is to bring them down to simple shapes and colours. And the best way to do that is to REALLY zoom out of your reference photo. Make it tiny on your screen and you'll have no choice but to simplify, only zoom in at the end for some touch ups. This is a really good collection and you've done a great job on all of them, but I personally like the brown forest road the most, and it strikes me as the most readable. You did a great job selling the shape of the shadow on the road and making it blue makes it really pop! Not sure if this helps, but keep up the good work ^^'

Hi everyone! This is my first challenge I’ve ever done and I had a lot of fun with these thumbnails! I still struggle with focusing too much on details so I did my best to use bigger shapes. Any critiques are welcome!
